People all over the globe are attempting to build or make their own DIY solar power . But what exactly are the benefits or advantages of building your own solar panels? Read on to find out…
Reasons to build your own solar panels include:
1. Cost Savings:
You can save literally thousands of dollars by implementing a DIY Solar Power System. The price of installing a commercial system can run into the high thousands, building homemade solar panels will cost you around $200 for materials.
After installation there is only minimal maintenance requirements, just give them a wipe over every now and then to make sure the maximum surface area of any panels are exposed.
Solar energy is free energy, that’s right free! As solar energy is harvested from a free source (the sun) you can expect to save quite a lot of cash by slashing your power bill, in some cases this can be as much as 80%
Any excess energy you no longer need can be sold back to the power company.
2. Help save the planet:
Solar power is an extremely clean and therefore environmentally friendly form of energy. There are no harmful emissions that are given off during the consumption, collection or production of solar energy.
As long as the sun shines in the sky there will be an abundance of this form of energy, its 100% renewable and as such doesn’t impact on the environment.
3. Stick to the man!
Move toward independent sustainability by building you own solar power system. No longer will you be tied to the grid, subject to government regulations or charges. You can also get away from it all by building small panels to power appliances in areas where conventional power is unavailable (i.e. a campsite).
So as we can see there are a large number of advantages and disadvantages when it comes to solar power, although I’m sure you will agree, the benefits far out way the negatives.
